A WEB OF PRIDE, THE SOULS TRAP

We are instructed by the word of our God not to be overly dependent in our own fading strength and biased judgement but to rejoice in the possibilities of Christ, who is our life. Man’s wisdom is his limitation. He’s puffed up in his ability to act in ways that bring him profit but he’s forgotten that he’s a limited entity, designed to depend on his maker.

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:7-8‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

We are easily entangled in the web of self. Man’s greatest problem is self. We feel invincible sometimes because our ego makes us feel that we are capable, outside of God. Sadly, we break sooner or later even in our wildest sense of intelligence. We thrive by organically connecting to the one who is sufficient in power, the Lord Almighty. Boasting in the flesh is a serious epidemic even in the body of Christ.

“for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and take pride in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh, although I myself could boast as having confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he is confident in the flesh, I have more reason:”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:3-4‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Great majority of us have been travelling on this path of priding in ourselves because we have not learned to come to terms with our fragility and seek to synergize with a higher power so that our life could become authentic expressions of His glorious initiatives on this side of eternity. May we say body declare with the Psalmist:

“Some praise their chariots and some their horses, But we will praise the name of the Lord, our God. They have bowed down and fallen, But we have risen and stood upright.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭20:7-8‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Our trust should be channelled to Him alone, the source of all knowledge and wisdom. He always lavish humbled hearts with true wisdom from heaven. Is it not a curse to trust in the arm of the flesh? Jeremiah 17 catalogues the troubles of a man who doesn’t make the Lord his arm and the overwhelming blessings of those who put their trust in Him

“This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the Lord. For he will be like a bush in the desert, And will not see when prosperity comes, But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, A land of salt that is not inhabited. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water That extends its roots by a stream, And does not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought, Nor cease to yield fruit.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17:5-8‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

May our hearts be humbled in His presence every day, to be reminded to live-out what His Word says – that we might be like a wise man who builds his house on a rock, that regardless of the storms that come against us, we might not be moved. In the Name of Jesus, who is the Word. Amen.

“I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭16:8-9‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
